Reflection for Singers
Straight from my studio
I’ve been working through the following reflection prompts with the singers in the studio. It’s been a wonderful jumping off point for conversation and honest goal setting, so I thought I would share it here in case this is useful to you! Enjoy…
New Year Voice Reflection Worksheet
This is not a test, a performance review, or a promise. This is a tool to get curious, playful, and honest about what you want this year for your voice.
Answer quickly. Answer imperfectly. Skip anything that feels sticky.
1. Permission & Play
If there were no rules or expectations, what would you love to sing right now?
What song do you sing when no one is listening?
What already feels good or satisfying about your voice (even if it feels small)?
2. How Singing Feels
When you imagine yourself singing at your best this year, how do you want it to feel in your body? Circle or add your own: free / grounded / powerful / calm / playful / confident / connected / brave / joyful
What do you want singing to give you emotionally this year?
Is there a feeling you miss when you sing that you’d like to get back?
3. Song & Repertoire Curiosity
What kinds of songs make you feel most like yourself?
Is there a song that feels like a stretch, but an exciting one?
If you were creating a 3‑song soundtrack for your voice this year, what would be on it?
4. Skill Exploration (No Judgment Zone)
What’s one vocal skill you’re curious about (not because you “should,” but because it intrigues you)?
What do you wish felt easier or more reliable when you sing?
5. Voice Beyond the Lesson Room
Where would you love your voice to be outside our room this year—if it felt safe and supported? (Examples: choir, open mic, social media, recording, singing with friends, just for yourself)
Is there a quiet “maybe someday” goal you’re willing to name?
6. Looking Ahead
At the end of this year, what would make you say: “That was a good year for my voice”?
What would make lessons feel nourishing?
How do you want us to approach your voice together this year?
If you want to share anything that came up for you, please do!

Thank you! I love this and will be sharing with my students.
